There is another access further south at the intersection of Blackgold and La Jolla Farms Roads where a long paved path leads down to an area known as South Blacks Beach but parking is limited to 2 hours.

The clothing optional section of Black’s Beach is supposed to be well defined to avoid problems that could affect the nude beach status.

It’s a popular spot for surfing, paragliding, beach walking, and no-tan-line sunbathing.

Blacks is a combo of Torrey Pines City Beach and Torrey Pines State Beach when looking at land ownership. The gay area is reportedly a 15 minute walk north on the beach from the main path down to Black’s Beach.

When you are at the beach, stay back from the bluffs as rocks can come careening down and massive bluff collapses have happened recently.

Torrey Pines State Park has two easier access points at North Beach and South Beach on N Torrey Pines Road.

There are no facilities on the beach itself, so visitors usually bring coolers, drinks, and umbrellas for shade. On sunny weekends, it’s a lively stretch filled with LGBTQ+ locals and visitors, with plenty of space to spread out. Set below the towering cliffs of Torrey Pines, it takes a bit of effort to reach - usually by walking down steep trails or along the shoreline at low tide - but that sense of seclusion is part of its appeal.

The northern end of Black’s Beach is where the gay crowd typically gathers.

If you are carrying stuff and/or need help descending steep trails then consider a different beach or a different route.

Another more interesting route to Blacks Beach uses a trail known as the Saigon Trail or Ho Chi Minh Trail.

Black’s Beach

Black’s Beach is San Diego’s most famous gay beach and one of the largest clothing-optional beaches in the United States.

The north boundary is Mussel Rocks (where large rocks extend into the water) and the south boundary is about 100 yards south of the main access trail. The trek down the cliffs can be challenging, but once you’re there, it's one of California’s most spectacular LGBTQ+ beach experiences.

The atmosphere ranges from social and chatty to laid-back and private, with people sunbathing, swimming, or strolling the long shoreline.

Because it’s clothing-optional, you’ll find everything from swimsuits to full nudity. It’s stretches from Torrey Pines State Beach below the famous Torrey Pines Golf Course at the north end all the way to Scripps Beach at the UCSD Oceanography Campus at the south end.
