WHO WE ARE - LGBTQ+ SCUBA DIVERS

Since 1992, DFL books a dedicated resort for a life affirming week of LGBTQ+ diving, entertainment and camaraderie.

“I envision an organization with many different divers, all of whom are organizing smaller trips and then reporting back to the group at large,” he says.

Without the tremendous support, vision, and hard work of the club representatives present, there would be no Diving for Life today.

Patrick anxiously awaited our return and had even purchased a VCR so he could watch the jamboree video the moment we returned. For now, reefs and wrecks of Broward County are home base.

Vision

Our vision is to foster acceptance and self-expression within the LGBTQIA+ diving community, advocating for environmental sustainability, and celebrating diversity.

We offer trips for all levels of divers, from instruction for new divers to advanced destinations for the experienced. As much as it seemed unthinkable to go without him, it was equally unthinkable to not see it through. The proceeds of the event are donated to charitable organizations designated by local dive clubs. He was a director within the life sciences industry and spent his days in meetings and solving technical problems and finding solutions to improve efficiencies in his organization.

A veteran diver in love with the sport and infected with the AIDS virus, Patrick’s dream was to unite all gay and lesbian divers (locally, nationally, internationally, and one day interplanetary, if possible), while raising money to fight the virus which was slowly depriving him of life. Incorporated as a charitable organization in New York State, DFL has been granted 501(c)(3) tax exempt status as an organization that uses its funds for charitable purposes.

One who “lives to dive” can also “dive to live.”

One who "lives to dive" can also "dive to live." So proved Patrick Kelly when he gave birth to the First Annual Diving for Life Scuba Jamboree in 1992.

Little did he know that the time “disconnecting” was going to become a passion of his and he would spend the next few months co-founding a nonprofit organization with Christopher from scratch.

Andre had always been passionate about helping others and saw a big opportunity to do so at a larger scale, by bringing joy to others and helping them explore the underwater world.

While there have been many attempts to create groups that served the same population and interests, previous groups have folded when primary members moved on. Friends who share our values, humor, and lifestyle.

New friends are what we make on our Undersea Expeditions, exploring the world and having a great time doing it.

We dive the clear, warm waters of our planet’s most exciting and exotic locations in the company of friends.
