"That's why I've decided that whatever film I'm doing now has to be shot in New York City — so I can be close to him," Daniel told Out in 2015.

Daniels was trying on his mother's heels at home one day. He also produced The Woodsman, starring Kevin Bacon as a pedophile attempting to reconstruct his life after a long prison sentence, and the poorly reviewed interracial love story Shadowboxer.

Regarding his frank "methed out my mind" remark, Daniels told Out that he likes to be very honest about his faults. And so did Laurie Ingram, his girlfriend at the time. He has been with Fisher for over 11 years now, and they share a great relationship. After suffering a heart attack, Daniels returned to directing with The Paperboy, a pulpy comic drama in which Nicole Kidman urinated on Zac Efron.

His first self-produced project, Monster’s Ball, a torrid drama about an interracial relationship between a white prison guard and the Black wife of a Death Row prisoner, was a surprise success, winning an Oscar for its star Halle Berry. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he had an unhappy, suffering physical and psychological abuse by his policeman father for being gay.

Daniels even made his career bend to his will solely for love.

His school experience was so bad that he avoided going to the bathroom at school.

His dad then put him in the trash can. Daniels has been in a relationship with hair stylist Jalil Fisher since 2010.

If you remember the scene in Empire where Lucious throws his son in a trash can, you might be surprised to know that the scene is based on reality.

"But sleeping with Laurie just to appease my dead dad," Daniels revealed. He attended Lindenwood College in Missouri, before moving to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the film industry. Daniels rose to wider international attention as the producer and director of the 2009 drama Precious, based on the novel by Sapphire about a young Black woman struggling with poverty, illiteracy and physical and sexual abuse.

"It's always when things are really good for me that I feel I'm not worthy of it," he explained to Out. "When Halle won her Oscar, I remember her calling, saying, 'Are you going to the Vanity Fair party?' and I'm strung out in the Chateau Marmont, methed out of my mind, thinking I didn't deserve it."

During their one-year marriage in 1988, the former sitcom star alleged she was physically attacked — and even raped — by her then-husband, boxing champion Mike Tyson.

“He shakes, he pushes, he swings,” she told Barbara Walters in an interview while they were still married. He told the magazine that when Halle Berry called him after she won the Oscar in 2002 for his “Monster Ball,” he was “strung out, methed out of his mind” at Los Angeles’ Chateau Marmont.

“I have to be really aware of it and always talking about it — and be truthful about it to the point of ugliness so that it keeps my ass in check,” he said.
